AddMagMap program
2.1 Overview
To import some objects a few simple steps must be performed:
1) Select MapSend (if several installed)
2) Select map where to export (or define a new map)
3) Select file with the data
4) Select what to export (in dependence on the file type)
5) Select to which layer and group the data belong to
6) Select how data will look on PC

Select MapSend (if several installed). AddMagMap automatically searches all installed MapSends, all found MapSends appear in a drop-down list. Alternatively (if not found) MapSend can be pointed with “Browse” button. In this example 8 different MapSend applications are installed on the computer. |
Select Map where to export, or create a new one. Existing map are shown by red squares, map that will be created at this step, but not yet exist is shown in green. This drop-down list shows only custom maps; custom objects can be added only to user defined custom maps to keep integrity of the MapSend. In this example custom objects can be added to existing “Mexico”, “Moscow”, “TrailsNE”, “AuckLandNZ” maps (created at earlier steps). Here new map named “SKIEast” will be created with a click to “Create map” button. Please see how to define map region (and corresponding accuracy) in the following chapters. |
Import data file. Since all custom objects must be of type of one of the Mapsend layers, only existing (for this Mapsend) types will be allowed. Typically they are lines or areas. Select type of files to import. Please refer for the format description in the following chapters.
Double click to the “Object properties” column to select data to import. If current data type has an option to select something or tune the import; the corresponding dialog will be opened. Please see next chapters for details.
Double ckick to the “Layer” column to select the layer and the group to where the imported object belongs to. Layers are selectable if they are the same type of the imported data (line, area or point). All other layers are not selectable and are shown by red crosses. In the example (US Topo 3d) layers of the “line” types are allowed (because we are importing some line). The “Streets” layer is selected; this layer belongs to the “Roads” group (labels will be inserted to the “Roads” group). By selecting the layer we select look (drawing type and zoom properties) on the receiver screen. |
Double click to the “Draw type” column to select how the object will be shown on PC screen. Insert at the bottom shows how this drawing type looks on MapSend screen.
Since different maps can use different drawing types, the drawing type can be selected from any of the existing maps (including custom) by selecting the map from the drop-down list at the top. Alternatively, drawing type can be selected from any predefined in this MapSend types, to show this dialog press “green arrow” button at the right. Typically there are more predefined types that are used by the maps. In this example (US Topo 3d) we draw line with “motorway” type (blue square) which is not used in any of the the Mapsend Topo 3d maps.
For some line types label can be surrounded by the icon, there are special rules for such labels, please see next chapters for details.
